ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Connection was the theme we tasked this group to design around when considering how to exhibit and document their works. What is connection? What brings a group of students together? What constellation unites a disparate array of projects with different content themes, different designed contexts, different perceived audiences? Where are the points of connection? Despite physical distance, political allegiances, or cultural backgrounds, this group has found ways to use graphic design to bring people and ideas together. They have synthesized research, imagined new worlds, designed practical and fantastical artifacts, and provided alternative ways forward while pushing the formal and conceptual limits of graphic design.

As visual communicators, the students in this exhibit have wielded tools that shape culture and society. We are proud of their achievements. We hope that their projects inspire you to find new ways forward, to navigate through the constellations of life, to look for connections around you and within yourself, and to think of graphic design as not only a pragmatic communication tool, but as a medium for intellectual inquiry and meaning-making based on personal experience.
