i remember not remembering is a set of design experiments that explores the link between memories, self-identity, and human senses. Memories are not just memories, they carry untold stories, experiences, cultures, emotions, feelings, etc., and help shape the person we are today. This body of works presents the process of one project leading to another, a journey creating relationships between personal recollections and senses of sight, hearing, and smell.

It includes: // a display typeface, Tube, capturing the architectural visual of Saigon, // an animation of the old neighborhood I used to live in, with Tube as cityscape and layers of different ambient noises, the street cries, the dogs and rooster’s sounds that all trigger my dearest memories, // The Glance of Smells, a poster comprised of 3D abstract objects, where each object represents a smell of Saigon that I blurrily remember. Throughout the whole process of retrieving memories, I tried to capture the feeling of uncertainty, the vagueness of distorted memories that have started to fade away, along with my identity as a person who grew up in Vietnam, but has been living in the States since 17. This is an open-ended project with the intention of continuing to record new memories and experiences through multisensory design.
