I have always been an avid music listener, and the right song can make my mood change completely. I also think there’s something beautiful about how much music can influence our emotions, as well as how multiple people can interpret the same song in different ways. With that being said, I wanted to create a more personal project, and explore various methods of visualizing how songs make me feel. I ended up deciding to share these emotions through designing CD booklets, which feature typography, illustration, photo, and even hand-drawn melody lines. I chose four songs with four different moods to work with: MOVE by Saint Motel, Gilded Lily by Cults, Lake Shore Drive by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah, and Clocks by Coldplay. Each booklet consists of a visual front cover, an information-based back cover, panels featuring the melody lines, and an extensive inside panel bursting with imagery and illustration. While each booklet follows the same format in terms of layout, they are drastically different in regards to the feelings they capture and share. By combining these elements into one publication per song, I hope to aptly convey how these songs make me feel and communicate those emotions to viewers.
