study of hair

Hair is an important part of human biology and culture. In different cultures, politics, religions, and histories, hair has become a symbol that represents identity, relationship, life, love, and power.
My thesis project explores and discusses the aesthetics, history, and culture related to hair from my personal interest. A Study of Hair is a long-term archive system that I am attempting to establish. It contains all the research and inspiration I have collected, as well as sketches, writing, and concepts I have created, all of which are organized into different chapters within the system. This archive will be presented in the form of a loose-leaf folder, where each page is an independent piece of content. The audience can get rid of the traditional narrative structure and browse through unrelated content. Some of these pages also serve as inspirations and clues for my sculptures, which is another part of my thesis project. I hope that the audience can be inspired by those fleeting, momentary, or even unfinished concepts when they look through this archive, crossing the boundaries of different media and forms, and connecting all different thoughts and imaginations about hair together.
